Jianying Zha (查建英) is a writer, journalist and cultural commentator in both English and Chinese. She is the author of two books in English, Tide Players (2011) and China Pop (1995), and six books of non-fiction and fiction in Chinese. Her work has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times, Dushu, Wanxiang, The Nineties and ChinaFile. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Zha also has been a regular commentator on current events on Chinese television, and worked for many years at the India China Institute at The New School in New York. Born and raised in Beijing, educated in China and the U.S., she lives in New York and Beijing.

查建英是一位作家、记者、文化评论家。她著有两本英文著作,分别为《弄潮儿:中国崛起的推动者和撼动者》(被英国《经济学人》评选为“2011年度最佳图书之一”)和《中国波普:肥皂剧、小报和畅销书如何改变一种文化》(被纽约《村声》评选为“1995年最佳图书之一”)。此外,她还出版了六本中文非虚构和虚构作品,最新出版的著作为《新十日谈:自由不是免费的》(与加藤嘉一合著;香港牛津大学出版社,2020年)。她的中英文作品广泛见于《纽约客》、《纽约时报》、《九十年代》、《读书》和《万象》等刊物。她2006年出版的《八十年代访谈录》被众多中国大陆出版物评选为“年度最佳图书”。她曾获古根海姆奖,经常在中文电视上评论时事,并曾长期任职于纽约新学院印度中国研究所。她在北京出生长大,在中国和美国接受教育,并长期在中美两地居住、行走。她与家人目前定居于纽约市曼哈顿。
